Kendra Hincka

In the summer of 2023, Kendra Hincka will join the Environmental DNA laboratory of the UW Biotechnology Center (UWBC), under the Directorship of Emmanuel Vazquez-Rivera and Chris Bradfield. She will participate in the development of protocols to interrogate soil samples for microbiomic content. The objective of the work will be to 1) develop protocols for the low-cost extraction of microbial DNA form soil samples, 2) employ next generation sequence analysis for the rapid analysis of those sample for microbial species, 3) the development of algorithms that allow the generation of microbial signatures that designate environmental degradation and 4) Contrast the microbiomic approach to a parallel approach being developed for lipidomics.
