Pedro Sanchez-Hernandez

The Kisat lab is interested in developing point of care molecular diagnostic approaches to rapidly confirm microbial infections and identify pathogens in trauma patients admitted to the ICU. Pedro will be working on one of the projects in the lab to enrich microbial cell-free DNA in plasma. The approach will be to compare different library preparation methods and perform size selection. The summer project will allow Pedro the opportunity to learn DNA extraction, library preparation and sequencing for microbial cell-free DNA. By enriching for microbial cell-free DNA in plasma, our goal is to improve pathogen detection and identification.
